Why vacuum packing changed furniture logistics

Most of what a sofa ships is air. Removing that air lowers both freight cost and carbon footprint.
Most of what you pay to ship a conventional sofa is the cost of moving the air inside its foam. A vacuum press removes that air and brings the parcel far below the open product's volume.
Three concrete results
- Freight falls. Units per container rise markedly, and transport cost per unit falls in proportion.
- Damage risk drops. A compressed, wrapped body is far harder to crush in handling.
- Delivery gets easier. Narrow stairs, small lifts and standard door widths stop being obstacles.
Does it harm the product?
The foam is specified at a density that recovers its form after compression. Once unpacked, the piece reaches full height within 24–72 hours. Not being at full form in the first hours is normal.
What it means for export
The cost of shipping furniture from Türkiye to Europe is driven largely by volume. Vacuum packing fits more product in the same container and keeps prices competitive in international markets.
